At last!

WoW! Where did this team come from?? MSU 35 - Jacksonville State 3! I know, everyone should be able to beat Jacksonville State but considering our team....they beat us last year so its nice to be able to beat them again! It was homecoming (how I hate homecoming) so that made it nice! We had a crazy guy sittin in front of us that called me a rebel fan - I said he was goin down for that blasphemy!! I am NOT nor ever have been an old miss rebel fan! BITE YOUR FRIGGIN TONGUE!!! I'm just in shock - where did that offensive line come from?? I've not seen them protect the QB as well as they did today. I know Croom told them he'd rather have holding calls then have a hand laid on our QB (we're hurtin in that area right now) but WoW! what a great job they did today!! How about the start of the game? A pick and run in for a touchdown when the game was just about 20 sec. into the first quarter!! I hope we can do as well against Georgia next week at Georgia.
And speaking of Georgia - WHAT HAPPENED??? I mean to get beat by Vandy??? and at home?? Wow! They've lost 2 games in a row now - first Tenn. and now Vandy, they'll be out for revenge next week when we march into town. Looks like they'll fall in the polls, perhaps out of the polls. How about Arkansas? They're 1 spot behind Ga in the polls and they won so they'll probably go up some in the polls. I never would have guess Arkansas to have a good season like they are having so far!
Alabama and old miss are in a battle right now with about 3 min to go and they're tied!

Woohoo!!

Oh yeah! A win at home!!

Another loss in the books

Well, we hung in there with the #4 team in the nation for the first 3 or so quarters but then the turnovers caught up with us. We also used 4 QBs in this game - Omaar Conner started the game and went 3 quarters before being injured (groin) and then our season starting QB was put in - Michael Henig is back. Once the game got out of control, they pulled him to keep him from getting injured and put Trey Rutland in. Trey's first or second play (that is still being debated (Andrew!!)), he was injured (knee) and it went to 4th string QB, Ty Evans. Yes, you read that right - 4th string! Can we be anymore unlucky?? This week the ball will likely be in the hands of Michael Henig and Ty Evans - yikes!!
Anyway, back to the game. This was perhaps my favorite game this season, including our dramatic 20+ point comeback led by Omaar against Tulane. This game was well played for most of it but the turnovers finally caught up with us. The score at the half was 14-7 - and this is the #4 team in the nation?? They didn't actually begin blowing us out until the 4th quarter and yet they managed to move up in the polls this week, uh?? Something is definitely wrong with the polls if they get rewarded for beating us soundly in the 4th quarter. The score in the 3rd quarter was 21-14 and we were threatening. They picked us off in the end-zone and started their own drive. Once the 4th quarter arrived, they scored 21 points and whipped us soundly. For a team that is supposed to be so good, how come they played so poorly? Even their coach is disappointed in their performance - "I'm disappointed in the way we played football, disgusted with the penalties and not very happy right now," Rodriguez said.
They got 11 penalties for 132 yards vs. our 4 for 45. They helped us a lot but sadly we could do nothing with it. We even had time of possession in our favor and still were unsuccessful.
I hope to see us win 2 more games so that at least we'll have a 3rd 3 win season on record - some say we have a chance of winning 4 more games (Alabama, Jacksonville State, Kentucky, and old miss) - I can see 2 or 3 wins but it will be tough. Alabama and old miss are both road games and old miss anytime, anywhere is a hard team to play. And our rivalry is over 100 years old now and that's the game where all records go out the window, all bad plays are gone - its a way to start over. No matter how poorly each team plays during the year, all bets are off and good playing is the name of the game.
There are a lot of Croom haters out there and they make more noise then his supporters. I for one am a Croom Supporter and hope he sticks around for a long time. Our team was in shambles once Sherrill finally left and we've been penalized for all his illegal doings. I think in a couple of years, we'll be ok. Maybe not a powerhouse like some of the other SEC teams but not in the 'doghouse' like we are now.
GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!
what happened to georgia???wow!

LSU loss

We lost to LSU at LSU but we scored more points then we have this season. Final score is 48 - 17. There was a lightining delay for about 45 min. and I didn't get to finish watching the game as WCBI had to switch over to the Alabama game - I just don't understand that but oh well. We got our penalties under control again, so that's good. Next week is a home game against #4 West Virginia - GO DAWGS!!!!!!!!!!!!

LSU

I hope that we can carry the momentum of our first win this season and our first road win in over 15 road games with us to LSU this weekend. We'll definitely need every ounce of that momentum to help us thru this game. LSU is always tough but especially at LSU.
For some reason, this season we don't have an off week until Nov. - quite a few teams have already experienced off weeks and yet we have to struggle on without a break till Nov. and by then, the season is nearly over. That makes no sense to me, especially in light of the tough schedule we have this year. Our first 2 games were SEC games (S.C. and Auburn) and then 2 non-conference (Tulane and UAB) and then to LSU at LSU and then home to play West Virginia. We'll also play Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Jacksonville State (non-conference) and of course, our in-state rivals old miss. That's 8 SEC games out of a possible 11 (there's 12 total teams including us) and the SEC is known for being the toughest conference to play. Who can argue that we have a tough schedule and one without a break until Nov. 11? At that point we'll have just 2 games left, Arkansas and old miss.
I must say something about 1 other game - what on earth happened to Alabama and their kicking game? They got beat by Arkansas by 1 point!! What's up with that??

Oh sooooooo close

Tulane beat MSU by a field goal yesterday. Coach Croom FINALLY decided to put Omarr Connor into the game late in the 2nd quarter. First throw Omarr makes, first down. MSU scored their first points of the season in the 3rd quarter making the score 14-7 and hope at last. But Tulane scored 18 unanswered points and looked to beat the Dawgs soundly but it was not to be. The BullDogs led by Omarr scored 22 points in the 4th quarter and tried an onside kick but it was recovered by Tulane and that ended the hope of a win for MSU. Croom has said he will stick with Omarr as QB but I hope he plays Trey Rutland occassionally as that is the only way he'll get experience as top dog on the field. He may yet prove to be a decent QB but right now, he has to learn to trust his blockers and not run away from the opposing team when they come at him but to get rid of the ball or be tackled right there vs 20 yds behind him as he runs away. One of his last plays yesterday - he was in the pocket and it was a solid pocket but he left and ran behind him a few yards and was sacked. At that point the fans started booing - something I DON'T agree with at all. But in this case, it apparently got the coaches attention as Omarr was finally put in the game at QB. We'll see if this works next week as we go on our first road game to UAB. GO DAWGS!!!

Football

Another game is in the books for MSU. Auburn 34 - MSU 0 - our stats were the same as against South Carolina, 11 first downs, same rushing yards, same passing yards, same score. How weird is that!!! We play Tulane this coming Saturday - Go Dawgs!
How about some of the other games? Tn. barely squeaked by Air Force 31-30 and only because the Air Force coach decided to go for 2 points (and failed) rather then the PAT at the end of the game. Georgia had a tough time against South Carolina (score doesn't tell) and won 18-0. What about Alabama? WoW! Just barely beat Vandy in the final minutes by a field goal - Bama 13 - Vandy 10. And my favorite, old miss got shredded by Missouri 34-7. Awesome! LSU, Florida, and Kentucky won their games.
Once again, the loyal BullDawg fans left the game with a full quarter to go - guess they wanted to let the few people without tickets have their seats to watch a little football!

More football

Ok, can you tell what I really like blogging about?? :) Auburn comes knocking on our door this Sat at 11:30 and the game is on tv again - Jefferson Pilot, I think. I know the first game of the season is the one where all the kinks are worked out but is it me or did Auburn look like they were lacking something on Saturday? They are predicted to be at the top of the polls but they struggled for most of their game and it wasn't really until halfway thru the 3rd quarter that things started working for them. I didn't really see a nationally ranked team playing there but who knows, maybe now that they got some of the kinks worked out, they'll go on to better things.
Tennessee looked pretty good as did Georgia. Kentucky got whuped good and, no surprise here, Vandy lost their game. Alabama played and beat Hawaii. The shocker came from Colorado - they got beat by a 1AA team, Montana State - what's up with that??
What do you think of the new clock rule? The clock starts running as soon as the ball is set, supposedly making the game move along at a quicker pace. I don't know what to think - here's what ESPN's Ivan Maisel says "Starting the clock at the "ready" signal is costing us some football, and that's not right. The difference in average number of plays is noticeable. Judging by opening week, NCAA records -- game, season, career, individual, team, you name it -- are much safer than they've been in years."

Some good football

Well, our first game is in the books - a 15-0 loss to South Carolina. Did you catch that score?? 15-0 - yeah, I know, its a shut out but a low scoring shutout. That means something worked better tonight and boy did it! I get so sick of people who say they are die-hard MSU Bulldog fans but leave the game early and gripe about how awful they play and totally ignore the good things, the improvements. Yes, our offense needs a lot of work but they also showed some improvement tonight - I saw quite a few awesome blocks take place (and a few that should have taken place but didn't). I saw some great runs for yardage. Our sophmore QB was injured, so the freshman backup came in. Notice that for a second - our starting QB is just a sophmore, not much experience there and his backup is a freshman and not just a freshman but a redshirt freshman. No experience in that department! There's nothing for them to be ashamed of, they are a young team that is working together more then teams in recent years. The defense you ask? Awesome! They did almost everything right! I think as the season goes on, everything will fall into place and we'll end with a winning season, maybe by just 1 game but still, a winning season. I just wish those die-hard fans would prove they are die-hard fans and stay till the end and start actually watching the game and see those improvements and quite griping about all the mistakes, no one is perfect!

SC game

Well our first football game is about over and we are gonna lose. Our defense is much improved but offense needs alot of work!

Player Croom??

MSU Head Football Coach, Sylvester Croom appeared at practice yesterday in pads, helmet, and Red Cross jersey. He said “I missed both practices yesterday so it's like all the rest of players, if you miss practice you have to wear a red cross,” said Croom. “I didn't tell anybody but Brad (Pendergrass). I was surprised I was able to get out there and walk around the field for so long and nobody knew who I was, so I must have looked good.” (SDN) Coach Croom missed practice on Tuesday to have a tooth pulled and decided to shake things up a bit at practice by donning the jersey, pads, and helmet. After running a couple of plays, the coach removed the equipment and it was business as usual. MSU BullDogs open the season in 21 days against South Carolina. GO DAWGS!!!!

Timothy Bryan Nootbaar (March 14, 1988- June 14, 2006) was killed in a car accident just 1 month after graduation. This picture shows him (left) and his best friend, Andrew, on graduation day. One bit of good news, we know where Tim is as he was a Christian. And as Andrew said today, it was God's will that this happen. We don't know why but He knows and that's all that matters!

Well, I'll still be working my usual full-time job at the library but I've also got a summer job (part-time). I'll be working for Gatorade at the sports camps held here at MS. State University. I (and the others) will be passing out Gatorade to all the kids at the various camps and making sure that they stay well hydrated during our HOT Ms summer! Ought to be fun and a learning experience. MSU as a whole is a Coke site (thus, its relatively easy to find Powerade on campus) but the Athletic Dept. is Gatorade, thus this program.

World record breaking attempt

This past week-end was the Market Street Festival over in Columbus. This usually takes place around the time of my birthday so that I've only made it to 1 event. My parents are out of town this week-end, so I took advantage of it. :)At this year's Market Street Festival, Tim Derby of Columbus is a 10th degree black belt in American Te-Jitsu Karate and he attempted a world record concrete break. His best claim to fame (from what I can tell) is that he is a Christian! He broke 75 concrete blocks - not all at once, they were stacked 3 in a stack for a total of 25 stacks. It was interesting to watch but was over very quickly. Here's one picture I took of him:

Tiredness

Whew doggie! I'm still tired from my all day JuJitSu clinic yesterday. We had Mark Barlow and some of his instructors come to Starkville to teach a Akyama JuJitSu clinic yesterday and it lasted from 9-4 (stopping for an hour to eat). We learned lots of new techniques and one that I could do without. The last technique we learned, I, of course, got hurt (pulled a muscle in my tricep and jammed my shoulder, nothing major). This technique required Uke and Tori to fall together. Uke attacks Tori and Tori counters and does a sacrifice fall, forcing Uke to fall as well to keep from getting injured. As they roll forward, Tori must maintain a hold on Uke and as they finish the fall, roll onto their stomach and put Uke in an arm lock. This was when I did something and hurt my arm - Ouch! All in all it was a good day!

How 'bout them Bull-Dawgs!!!! Ok, ok, so the big game was on Sat and I do mean BIG game. It was against our in state rivals, the OLD Miss Rebels and we kicked butt! How about 84-55?? Wow! Where has this team been this season? However, Ole Miss did have its emotional issues - the starting center lost his brother the night before the game and decided to play anyway. Wow! SuperBowl XL

WAY TO GO STEELERS!!
I must admit, though, that the Steelers won because the Seahawks couldn't make plays. I mean, how can a team (Steelers) win a game when their quarterback has the lowest game percentage in SuperBowl history? All in all, though, it was a good game and a great win!! And how about the way the Bus got to retire? Wow! What an ending for him and what a way to go, in your own hometown.
How about the Steelers last touchdown? Wow! Randle El threw a bullet to Hines Ward. He became the first Wide Receiver to throw a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl!

hoops

Well, the Dawgs played a good game against Bama tonight but it wasn't enough - they lost by 6. They have only won 1 SEC game thus far this season and not much hope of winning others (but we'll still root them on). They're just too young and inexperienced. Maybe next year will be better!
Speaking of next year, I think our football team will improve A LOT!!!

Loss

Here's a topic I haven't delved into at all - weight loss. I gained a fair amount of weight after my knee surgery 6 years ago and then summer '04, my bro and his wife lived with me and we cooked lots of good stuff. Well, mid-year last year, I decided to change all that. I lost about 25 pounds in 3 months but then regained 15 after I hurt my knee and couldn't work out at all. In October, I started really working on it again and have lost a total of 35 pounds (including the 10 I didn't gain back earlier) -WooHoo!! I'm on a roll now and hope to lose about 60 more to be back at my 'good' weight. I can do this!!

Steelers

How about the steelers? Wow!! The Bus rolls into Detroit!

Well, I know I said that our basketball team wouldn't do so hot this year but I never dreamed we'd do as bad as we're doing. I mean, come on, who loses 4 straight SEC games and todays game against Vandy by a big score. There's no way we can go to a conference championship game, no way we'll get invited to the big dance, and no way we'll go to any other off-season bonuses - we're just way to awful!!

And speaking of libraries, I've found an interesting site where you can catalog all your books online and create a virtual library. Here's the site: Library Thing. The first 200 books you do are free and then its either $10 a year or a one time $25 fee for lifetime. Can't figure that one out, why pay $10 a year if you can pay $25 once?? Hmmm....

WoW oh WoW oh WoW

What a game that was! I'm talking about Tx Longhorns and USC Trojans. This was hyped to be a big game and a big game it was. I'd been doing good about not staying up late to watch the whole game of some of the bowl games but this was one time I watched the whole thing. WoW! I was pulling for Tx while most all commentators and such said USC would win and win big - boy were they ever wrong! Vince Young just marched on the field determined to win the day and win it he did! This was a battle all the way to the end - punts were exchanged and touchdowns were fought for and won. In the end, USC just didn't have what it took to win the game and their 34 game win streak was snapped - HOOK 'EM HORNS!! Final score 41-38 - 'nuff said! :) I have to say what a class act Mack Brown of Tx is - in accepting the trophy he said something along the lines of All the players, coaches, and fans should show their recognition to the great job USC has done in the past years and give them credit for a hard fought game - the stadium exploded in applause. BUT USC was not as kind. The coach acted as though he was giving credit where credit was due but the players had nothing good to say. Matt Leinart even went so far as to say they were still the best team but that the plays all went Tx' way. I heard not one good comment about Tx from any of the USC players - I realize that they just lost but come on, show some good sportsmanship and say Something good about your opponent.
Well, other bowl game news - the SEC finished 3-3. Alabama, Florida, and LSU won their games while South Carolina, Georgia, and Auburn lost theirs. I was really disappointed that Ga. lost as they are the team I pull for in the SEC East.
I'm sad now as football season is truly over - I know there's still the NFL and I do watch that from time to time but I'm not as into professional football as I am college ball. Only 7 or 8 months till football season

Peach Bowl

Oh WoW! LSU stormed all over Miami - they started the season with a hurricane and ended the season with the Hurricanes and what an ending! Nothing went wrong for the Tigers from La. Their quarterback had never started a game and he showed what good stuff he is made of and led the team to a 40-3 over the Miami Hurricanes. This gives them an 11 win season for the first year of their new coach. I had a feeling that LSU would win but never dreamed they'd win so convincingly. WoW! What a great SEC bowl game win!
Speaking of SEC bowl games - what happened to South Carolina?? They started the game off so well but ended up losing the game to Missouri - ouch!
There aren't any bowl games I'm interested in watching tomorrow but I'm gonna watch Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia play their games on Mon., Fla St on Tues, and I'm pullin for Texas on Wed - Hook 'em horns!

basketball

Well, lacking football to discuss (at least until this week-end when the bowl games start in earnest) I checked on the MSU basketball team and find that we are 9-3. BUT we have yet to play an SEC game and that will be yet another test of whether we are a decent team (which I think we're not) or not. Our team is just much to young but we'll see as the season progresses, whether I'm right or wrong.

Instructor??

Well, I survived yet another attempt at being a TaeKwonDo instructor. I have very, very little experience doing so - tonight's class was just my 4th or 5th time to teach but the first where I had more then 45 min. warning that I would do so. Its Christmas and some of the instructors are out of town and others had to work so I marched on in and taught. I can see that each time I teach, I do a bit better and am a bit more organized each time. I don't feel like such a failure after tonight's class!
Check out the dojo's webpage - Starkville Martial Arts - I'm a certified assistant instructor, a 2nd degree black belt in TKD and a brown belt in JuJitSu. It's a lot of fun and a great way to get some exercise in as well!

So, here's my plain and simple Christmas page - hopefully during the holidays I'll be able to work more on my real site and get it loaded after Christmas. Anyway, here's the addy - Christmas Page

Merry Christmas??

So why is it that there are stores that are banning the use of the phrase Merry Christmas from their stores? If they are worried about the use of Christmas then why do they continually sell Christmas items in the store rather then holiday items. They still have Christmas trees, Christmas cards, Christmas music, and so on. Are they afraid that the small percantage of the population who are from other religious persuasions are all of a sudden offended by the phrase Merry Christmas (that which has been used for eons without any complaint) and so are banning it in favor of Happy Holidays so as to be more inclusive of our fellow neighbors? Uh oh, I guess that means we should declard Dec. 24th and 25th as Happy Holiday day/eve instead of Christmas day/eve and no more Christmas presents, they are now to be called holiday gifts. Hmmm....and how will the music industry respond? Will all the songs with the word Christmas in them have to be re-written and use a less offensive term now? I can't imagine such songs as Oh Holiday Tree Oh Holiday Tree or how about I'm dreaming of a white Holiday or We wish you a happy Holiday or even the 12 days of Holiday. Kinda ridiculous, don't you think?? You can't take CHRIST out of CHRISTmas but they sure are trying....

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Dogs

WoW! I'm in Dog/Dawg heaven today - both of my dogs won their game!! MSU beat ole miss and Ga beat Ga Tech just now! What a battle Ga had - the 2 teams were tied until very late in the 4th quarter when Ga finally scored a touchdown. And in the final 1.5 min, Ga intercepted the Ga Tech pass to seal the game. AWESOME!!! WoW! What a great ending to a great day!
GO DAWGS/DOGS!!!

WooHoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO DAWGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MSU just won their first SEC game this season over our in-state rivals, old miss. 35-14 + as an added bonus, old miss is in last place and not us!!! Our team was like a brand new team out on the field everything went their way. We had 4 interceptions - 3 caught by the same player. We had a player go back to back 1000 yard seasons (although, you wouldn't know it by our record lately) and that same player rushed for 204 yds in today's game! Way to go Jerious!
It was awesome to see the stands remain full and for awhile there, I thought we were back in one of our winning seasons as the stadium rocked and was extremely noisy. I think if the fans would do that every game, we might be able to win more games. I believe that most of our fans are fickle and will only support the team when they are winning and there aren't enough of us die-hards out there to pick up the slack and push the team through.
Anyway, they'll be partying going on throughout Starkville tonight I expect!

Arkansas game

Well, I drove 5 1/2 hrs to watch my BullDawgs play and then lose to the Arkansas Razorbacks. I was not impressed with the stadium in Little Rock at all - it wasn't much more then a built up high school field and wasn't much different then our biggest rival to the north's stadium before they built their's up. But we had fun while it lasted! The Razorbacks started the game super hot - scoring their first 14 points in under 5 min. We just couldn't do anything - our defense was working but not accomplishing much of anything and our offense couldn't get past the 30 yard line. That first quarter was the first time ever that I just felt like leaving the game and driving back home - usually I don't want to leave but it just got to be too much yesterday. But once I got into the game (and believe, my throat is still sore) it became a more enjoyable game. I was GREATLY disturbed (and I'm not the only one) by the fact that our cheerleaders did nothing - just stood around trying to look cute. When they were finally coaxed into doing something, the Dawgs scored a touchdown - coincidence?? Maybe not - the players can hear the cheering and when there is none, may feel that everyone has truly given up on them and why should they keep trying. And what is up with the fans who come to the game and then proceed to talk smack about the players and coaches on the team? I find it hard to believe that you're a fan if you're going to spend the ENTIRE game talking bad about our team and calling them all a bunch of losers and moaning for the old coach to be back cause things haven't been the same...Come on, just don't waste your money and my time by coming to the game.
I'm just sad as I think that this coming Sat. game is our last one for the season and that other then watching bowl games on tv, I won't have football to watch till next season. :(
I had only driven thru 1 small portion of Ark. years ago and was surprised as I drove yesterday to find that there is nothing at all in this section of Ark. I mean once we left Memphis, that was it until we got to Little Rock. There might have been a small town or 2 but all we ever saw were a couple of exit signs, no sign of life anywhere.
Well, I'll stop ranting now and get on with better things - next week's game is against our rival Ole Miss and all will be alright if we beat them!

Arkansas

I'm looking forward to this week-end as I'm going to the MSU-Arkansas game in Little Rock. This will be the last SEC West stadium that I will need to visit in order to have visited them all. I collect cups from each stadium I've been to (and 1 that I haven't been to) and have a small collection. I've been to (of course) MSU, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tulane (collector's cup now?? - game was at the SuperDome), Georgia, Vandy, Ole Miss. I've got a cup from Florida Gators, SEC Championship game (we went in '96), and of course Shreveport, La for Independence bowl (otherwise known as Snow Bowl!). That bowl game was awesome - not only did we win but it snowed and that is a rarity in the South. Can you guess that I like to travel?? :)

A Day in the SEC

Wow! What a day yesterday was for SEC teams - upsets galore! We saw Alabama lose their first game this season to LSU (who they have always had trouble beating). We saw Florida get beat by South Carolina - Wow and I thought Carolina was on a losing track this season but it appears they have improved dramatically. We also saw Georgia (my favorite team in the SEC east) get beat by Auburn by 1 lousy point. I would not have placed my hopes on Auburn beating Georgia but they did. Oh, and it looks like Georgia will still make it to the SEC championship game thanks to SC beating Florida. In the West, its still open but LSU is favored to go to the championship game. Looks like old Miss's hopes for a bowl game invite flew out the window as Arkansas beat them. My Dawgs had an off week this week but we travel to play Arkansas next week followed by old Miss the following week. Vandy had a close one yesterday with Ky. I was really rooting for Vandy this year as they have had many, many bad season lately and started off this season on a hot streak but I don't think they'll make it to a bowl game this year. What has happened to Tenn. this year? They have a losing record right now and they were predicted to go the SEC championship game at the beginning of the season? Is it time for Fulmer to take his leave? Well, I reckon I'll take my leave for now!

A bit behind

Ok, ok. I never got around to posting after the Kentucky game and with good reason. I had a bit of an accident at a local store (name intentionally withheld to save their face). It involved me sliding thru someone's not to recent vomit (yuck!) and landing squarely on my knee. I have a bruised nerve in the knee and it can be painful - even when hit by just my dog's waggin tail! Anyway, I have absolutely nothing good to say about the team after the Ky game so I won't - they sucked!
HOWEVER, in spite of the loss, I have to commend my Dawgs on a game well played against Alabama. The score was 17-0 (sounds worse then it was) and Ala only scored 1 offensive field goal. The other 14 points came due to turnovers from us that their special teams and defense capitalized on. Our defense played very, very well against a team that is SUPPOSED to be so good since they are undefeated. Personally, I think they should have dropped in the polls since they suxed so badly against a team that's only won 2 games this season! I'm glad they didn't go up in the polls - although it would be kinda cool to see an SEC team go undefeated again as Auburn did last year. The last time they were in the state (3 weeks ago), they barely escaped with their record intact as that other university to the north of us kept up with them and Alabama won by a field goal with just 3 seconds left in the game.
We have this week off and then travel to Little Rock to play at Arkansas and then home for the annual 'Egg Bowl' with old miss. All is forgiven if we beat our in-state rival!
This coming week-end, our basketball season gets started and it ought to be interesting to see how we do as we have NO starters returning from last year and have mostly freshman on the team. The joke is, we'll have to wait till baseball season to see a team with a winning record!

SEC Win

Well, today's football game will give the first SEC win to one of the teams (hope its mine). Today's game is between MSU BullDawgs and Kentucky Wildcats - GO DAWGS!!!! Both teams are sportin losin records and neither have won an SEC game yet this year. My team has 3 games to go in the season and all are SEC. After today we have Alabama, a week off, Arkansas (at Ark), then Thanksgiving weekend we play the Egg Bowl with old Miss. The Egg Bowl isn't really a bowl game, its just the game against our main rival to the north of us. As they say, the first sign of intelligence in Oxford (ole miss) is the road sign that says Starkville (MSU) 95 mi. :)

I'm in tv heaven *spoiler*

Walker Texas Ranger returned tonight in a 2 hour movie bringing together most of the original cast of the original series! This movie showed Walker and Gage up against Koreans trying to retrieve a missile guidance system that has fallen into the hands of a 13 year old. Trevette is off teaching CIA recruits, so his appearance in the movie is all of 2 minutes. Syd is totally not in the picture and Alex is in it off and on. Speaking of Alex, Is she dead?? I mean, cliffhangers in the tv series is one thing but to do it in a movie??? I sure hope the rumours are true and that there is at least going to be another movie to tell us whether Alex dies and leaves Walker to be a widower with a child or whether she lives to tell the tale (another quarter inch and I'd be a goner). Their daughter was in the movie about 5 min and then wasn't shown again. This movie was great but is it just me or is Walker starting to show his age a bit? He gets his butt kicked and actually uses his gun on a couple of occassions to shoot a bad guy rather then beat him to a pulp - guess we have to cut him some slack, he is 65 years old, after all.... The other rumour on the net is that they are considering bringing the series back to the tv screen - I say WE WANT WALKER!!!

Hold on wait a minute gotta put some Dawg in it??

Don't know about that - I think the game against Fla in the Swamp this past weekend had more heart in it then Dawg! My poor Dawgs have lost yet again to their third ranked opponent this year and thankfully, we finally get a week off! The score this week was 35-9. This game started off as a tennis match as we intercepted a pass and then 2 plays later, they intercepted it right back. We were both tied in the first quarter 3 all. And then it started. Who out there has ever heard of a game having 2 safeties and a blocked punt?? Well, you have now. MSU got hit with 2 safeties and a blocked punt AND our quarterback (Omarr Connor) went out in the 2nd quarter with a bruised sternum! I think after the first safety, all momentum went to Fla and stayed there the rest of the game. While we played a bad game, we stuck in there and kept pluggin away - playin with heart more then skill. I think the best play of the game for the Dawgs came in the 4th quarter when Jerious Norwood was able to wiggle his way 76 yards for our only touchdown of the game! And talk about an observant coach! Croom caught a missed call in the 2nd quarter and challenged it and won! The call was this - a Fla player was knocked out on the 1 yard line and Fla retained the ball BUT as he was knocked out, the ball came loose and hit the pylon meaning MSU got the ball!
Well, like I said, next week we have the week off and then we have homcoming against Houston. I hope we can win that game so maybe the guys will get a little more confidence. Our schedule doesn't get any easier - we still have Alabama (undefeated), Arkansas, Kentucky, and old miss to play.

sad times in Dawgville

Well durn it!! My Dawgs just continue to slide backwards - they take a step forward and show promise and then they take 3 steps back and show lack of discipline. I'll be very very glad when the players finally decide what they truly want! We lost to LSU big time - 37-7! This was not a close game, not like the Ga game. And guess what?? It only gets worse! We go to the Swamp this weekend and take on the Fla Gators and they are extremely hungry for revenge - we beat them last year here at home.... What's up with the NCAA - are they out for our blood?? I mean, c'mon folks - 3 top 10 teams back to back, what else can that mean??? :) I'm just glad the Jerious Norwood and Omarr Conner weren't hurt seriously in the last game and that they're injuries were minor cause we sure need those guys healthy.
GGOOOOOOOOOOOO STATE GO!!!

what a weekend!

Well, my beloved Dawgs lost to Ga BUT it was a good game, their best game thus far! The score shows it this time - 23-10 (oh yeah, Ga is ranked 5th or 6th in the nation so I reckon we hung with them pretty good). LSU comes knocking on our door this coming weekend so I hope our good playing continues and improves. I think in the next year or so we'll be really good - right now we are just so young and inexperienced!
Well today was eventful, what's left of Hurricane Rita came marching thru here spawning tornados all over the place. This afternoon, nearly every 45 min or so the sirens would go off alerting residents to possible tornados. One actually touched down and did some damage on the campus of MSU.
Well, I'm off to bed - hope I don't get blown away!! :)

Rita

well, it looks like a co-worker and I were predicting correctly. In my last post I mentioned that Rita was heading in the direction of Galveston/Houston - I didn't believe that that was where it would hit but that's what the 'experts' were saying. My friend and I predicted that it would hit along the Tx-La state line and guess what? that's the area its heading now. It will be a terrible thing to hit anywhere but at least perhaps it won't be so bad for such a huge city like Houston since they are likely to know be on the 'clean' side of the hurricane. However, poor New Orleans is on the 'dirty' side of the hurricane and depending on where it actually makes landfall, could have massive amounts of wind and rain or just a lot of rain (hopefully not more then 6 inches or the levees might flood the entire city, including areas not flooded before).
As if the storm weren't bad enough, the roads leaving Houston are backed up so far.... Here's what 1 person said about this "This is the worst planning I've ever seen," said Judie Anderson, who covered just 45 miles in 12 hours after setting out from her home in the Houston suburb of LaPorte. "They say we've learned a lot from Hurricane Katrina. Well, you couldn't prove it by me." I can't imagine going just 45 miles in 12 hours - WoW!!! That's slow movement!

3rd strongest

Oh My!! Hurricane Rita has just become the 3rd strongest storm ever in the Atlantic Ocean, at 898 mb. It has now passed Katrina by on this list but still, think about this, we've now seen 2 of the strongest hurricanes ever in just under a month!! And folks, we still have just over 2 months to go for the current hurricane season! At this point, it looks like Rita will hit Tx in the Galveston/Houston area but its still to early to know 100% for sure that that's where it will hit. What do you think - would it be better if it hit the recently hit coasts where there's not much left to damage or should it hit some other area (ie Galveston)? I know, we can't control where it would hit - just wonder about the opinions out there!

Please Please donate to the Red Cross, they will need more support now with Rita out there!!

storms

Can you believe it?? Another storm is heading to the Gulf Coast region and could be a hurricane! Right now it looks like it will hit Texas but also in the predictions is La. - Yikes! As if Katrina wasn't enough, now they have to watch Rita!

Please donate to the American Red Cross today!

Tulane

Well, as I said earlier, the football game with Tulane was a tough one. Neither team scored until the 3rd quarter. My Dawgs then scored 14 points! Tulane would soon answer back and a battle ensued. My Dawgs came out on top and won the game 21-14! Tulane played very, very well considering their circumstances. They have had to practice on high school fields and haven't had the chance to scrimmage a whole lot. They have nothing to be ashamed of at all! GO GREEN WAVES!!! I hope you do very well the rest of your season!

computer

Ok, I'm working on building a computer (first one in awhile) and am quite shocked at what I found on the inside - they are now color coding cables. Well, at least the cable for the primary IDE - as if I didn't know where on the mother board it went, its now color coded to help jog my memory! Wow! What's next? Color coded memory chips? Or how about each power cord colored to go only and I mean only on the correct color on the corresponding drive/etc - so, that we'll be up the creek without a paddle if we don't buy all our parts at the same time so that they are color co-ordinated! :)

don't forget to donate to the Red Cross and help out the Hurricane Katrina victims!

football 2

Well, my Dawgs didn't do so well against Auburn. As a matter of fact, I think they forgot to take the team with them to Auburn and just randomly picked some fans out of the stands to play. Well, maybe things weren't quite that bad but still, they were close enough. Read in the paper today that Coach Croom was so upset over the penalties, that in order to encourage less penalties, he's going to start limiting game time in some form for those who committ the penalty. I guess this will be one way to wake them up and get them out of the rut they've dug themselves into.
Our game this weekend will be the toughest one all season - its against Tulane and we all know what they've suffered. I can't imagine the emotions going into that game! Those Tulane players are going to be quite aggressive and they will have somewhat of a home-field advantage. The game will be played in Shreveport rather then the usual location of the Super Dome. There are many displaced people from New Orleans located in Shreveport who will be at this game.
Go Dawgs!

please donate to the American Red Cross for the continued relief of Hurricane Katrina victims!

Well, my new little niece recently turned 2 months old! Its hard to imagine me as an aunt but I am! :) Here's some pics of the little tyke and some of her relatives - Naomi

football

Well, here it is 2 days before the start of the MSU BullDawgs football season and I should be excited, right?? I can't help but think about all the college football players whose families have been thru vicious Katrina this past week and how we expect them to get out on the field and give 110% for our enjoyment. If it were up to me, I'd postpone football season by at least 2 weeks to give these students a chance to make sure their families are safe and settled somewhat until such time that they can go home again and begin rebuilding. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge football fan, especially of my hometown Ms State Bulldogs and I'll be out there cheering them on but I think this would have been the right thing to do. Sadly, its not up to me! :)

Please contact your local Red Cross office and donate money to help out the Hurricane Victims!

New Website

Working now on a brand new website, doing the research for it as I type (well, thinking about what else I should add to it while I type this). It won't be a WWII site this time although that's not totally out of the realm of possibility - maybe I'll put that up on a free website host like Geocities. It'll be about one of my highest passions - planes and jets. I guess the bug first hit me when I was born as I was born on the Columbus Air Force Base in Ms. I've always enjoyed planes and such but sadly, have never flown except for a ride in a Huey at an air show a couple of years ago. That was an awesome ride!! Anyway, I'll post the link to my site here once its done. Let me know if you have any ideas of planes I should add to the site - I will consider all suggestions!

Lazy Bones

I've become the world's laziest person online, thanks in part to a wireless network I've set up in my home. I can now surf the web (limited) and check email anywhere in my house with my Dell Axim. I don't surf a lot since I haven't yet loaded a virus program on there to keep out pesky viruses. My friends all think I'm nuts - I think I'm nuts but I'm having fun! :)
Another new toy I got is an AudioVox 8615 cell phone - I've been downloading ringtones to it and enjoying the color screen and lightweight.

Starting over

I deleted all my old postings as most of them are useless now. I'd love to hear from anyone who visits this blog and how they got to it. I was reading today that Prince Charles is marrying Bowles - I think he should have done that to begin with and not ever married Diana. He didn't love her, not really, but was forced into that marriage. Hopefully, he'll stayed married this time and not find someone new to wreck this marriage.
Does anyone out there use the Dell Axim X30? Its a great handheld and I was wondering if you knew of some cool games that are free or cheap to add to it. Drop me a line and let me know!
